Your adventure begins with a luxury departure from your Christchurch accommodation, heading south into the spectacular landscapes of the Southern Alps. Travel one of the world’s most scenic highways, as the journey unfolds across the vast Canterbury Plains and through ever-changing scenery – from golden farmland to the lush forests near Mount Aspiring National Park.
Your first stop is the charming alpine town of Fairlie, where you’ll enjoy a visit to its award-winning bakehouse, famous for hearty New Zealand pies and fresh local treats. From here, the road winds inland toward the striking blue waters of Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps’ towering peaks.
From Lake Pukaki, embark on what’s considered one of the world’s top 10 scenic drives, leading you to the breathtaking Mount Cook Village. Along the way, you’ll want your camera ready – the views are simply unforgettable. On arrival, your guide will take you on a gentle walk through alpine bush trails nestled beneath Aoraki/Mount Cook.
From here, you can tailor your afternoon to suit your pace: choose to take in panoramic views on a scenic helicopter flight or perhaps explore the Tasman Glacier (New Zealand’s longest glacier) on a heli hike.
If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend you experience a guided visit to New Zealand’s highest alpine hut by helicopter. The Whiskey Hut experience is 60 mins and can be in a shared or private helicopter.
After a day of awe-inspiring landscapes and unforgettable moments, sit back and relax on your return to Christchurch, as your guide shares stories from the region’s rich history.
